Leon E. Crippen, 69, of Salem, passed away April 26, 2017 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born the son of Harold and Vivian (Morrow) Crippen on April 10, 1948 in Centralia, IL. He married Karen Reiss on March 6, 1971 in Louisville, Kentucky.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Crippen of Salem, IL, devoted children, Brian Crippen and wife Michelle of Festus, MO, Ashley Crippen of Salem, IL; beloved grandson, Eli Crippen of Festus, MO; cousins, Colleen Osborne of Alma, IL, Paulette Bray of Farina, IL; mother of Ashley, Kim Holzhauser of Salem, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Vivian Crippen.

Leon worked on the family farm for most of his life. He also sold Mormon feed & Bear
seed corn. Later in life he was an entrepreneur, buying land and rental property.

Services will be held 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Odin with Pastor Mark Copley officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00-12:00 p.m. until time of service at funeral home on Tuesday. Burial will follow at Lovel Grove Cemetery in Omega Township. The family asks that memorials in Leon’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association. On-line condolences and memories of Leon may be shared with the family at or on Facebook.
