David E. James, 71, of Centralia, passed away May 10, 2017 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital. He was born the son of Roy and Mildred (Hoeinghaus) James on September 4, 1945 in Centralia, IL. He married Dorothy Aldag and then later divorced. He later married Karen Farner on September 4, 1999 in Centralia, Illinois. She still survives him in Centralia.

Survivors include his loving wife of 17 years, Karen James of Centralia, children, Cindy Bobell of Marion, IL, Ronda Pryor and husband Gary of Okawville, IL, Heather Leek of Odin, IL, Patrick Budds and wife Tammy of O’Fallon, MO; cherished grandchildren, Victoria Bobell, Ryan Leek, Brooke Leek, Allyson Leek; 6 step-children; 7 step-grandchildren; 5 step great-grandchildren; caring brothers, Larry James and wife Vicki of Centralia, IL, Tommy James and fiancée Michelle of Centralia, IL; adored sisters, Carolyn Meador and husband “Butch” of Centralia, IL, Janice Ring and husband Gary of Centralia, IL, Joyce Sample and husband David; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mildred James; sisters, Phyllis James, Betty James, Sue Perry, Delores Chapman, and Mildred Thornton; brothers, Roy James, Jr.,and Stanley James.

David served in the United States Marines during Vietnam; where he was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the V.F.W., Disabled American Veterans, and AMVETS He was lifelong resident to the Centralia area. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his free time. David treasured every moment of his time with family and friends and will always be remembered as a wonderful husband, father and friend.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend visiting hours from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017 at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, 205 South Elm Street in Centralia, IL. A celebration of life service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the church on Saturday with Pastor Tom Sprague officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Military rites will be accorded by V.F.W. Post #2055 and American Legion Post #446. The family ask that memorial contributions in David’s memory be made to the Centralia V.F.W.
